Luque previously revealed Maradona will remain in hospital until at least Monday and has now provided a further update on the legendary forward s condition.

Diego is better, much better, he said outside Olivos Clinic in Buenos Aires province, where Maradona is staying.

Unai Simon signs five-year Athletic deal with no release clause

Unai Simon has signed a new five-year contract with Athletic Bilbao that does not include a release clause.

Goalkeeper Simon, 23, has reportedly been monitored by Real Madrid and Inter and would have been available for €50million under the terms of his previous deal.

However, after seeing Chelsea trigger an €80m buy-out fee in Kepa Arrizabalaga s contract at San Mames in 2018, Athletic have moved to avoid a repeat.

Simon moved into the first team following Kepa s exit and Thursday s announcement coincided with the second anniversary of his LaLiga debut and a first call-up to the Spain squad from Luis Enrique.

I ve been here since I was 14 years old. Being here until 2025 is a dream for me. I am very proud and happy for the trust the club has placed i…

Roberto De Zerbi confident Brighton can secure European football for next season

Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi believes his side are still capable of securing a place in Europe for a second successive season.

The Seagulls are 10th in the Premier League with seven games of a campaign memorable for a first foray into continental competition remaining.

Current form is not good, however, with just one win from the last six league outings, but De Zerbi is optimistic.

Ahead of Saturday’s trip to Burnley, the Italian said: “It’s difficult to understand how many points we need, but we have to think game by game.

“I think we have the chance to reach Europe. It’s tough because there are a lot of strong and very good teams, but we have the chance.

“The schedule is not the best, but we’re going to find a lot of teams who pl…

Liverpool great Barnes unsure if Alexander-Arnold suits midfield role

Liverpool great John Barnes is not convinced Trent Alexander-Arnold is at his creative best when used in the central role he adopted last season.

Having attracted criticism for a series of defensive mishaps as Liverpool failed to challenge Manchester City last term, Alexander-Arnold switched to a central role in the season s closing weeks.

Liverpool won seven of their last nine Premier League games to finish fifth, a run that started with Alexander-Arnold producing two assists in a 6-1 rout of Leeds United, drifting inside from his right-back position to a hybrid role.

Alexander-Arnold then played in midfield during England s wins over Malta and North Macedonia last month, but Barnes is not sure it will become his permanent position.

It depends on the ga…

Hart pens new City deal

Joe Hart has penned a new long term contract with Manchester City, according to Sky Sports.

The England international moved to the club from Shrewsbury Town in 2006, and has made two hundred and seventy-three appearances for them since breaking into the first team.

The 27 year old fully established himself as City’s number one following loan spells with Tranmere Rovers, Blackpool and finally Birmingham City, where he was named the club’s player of the year in 2010.

During his time at the Etihad Stadium, Hart has won two Premier League titles, the FA Cup and the League Cup while at international level he has been capped forty-eight times for his country.

Manuel Pellegrini’s men beat bottom-of-the-table Leicester City last weekend to remain withi…

Arteta in awe of ´culture´ Klopp has created at Liverpool

Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta is in awe of the winning culture created by Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool and the German s ability to root out any early signs of complacency, acknowledging they are at a level the Gunners aspire to.

Liverpool ended a 30-year wait for the English top-flight title last season as they won their first Premier League crown, finishing 18 points clear of Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola s City had broken a host of records en route to the title in the previous two seasons, although Liverpool finished only one point adrift of them in 2018-19.

While much of the focus for Liverpool is on their success last season, they have been consistently exceptional for two years and Arteta could only marvel at the achievement.

Lassana Diarra nears PSG move

SFR Sport claims that former Real Madrid midfielder Lassana Diarra could be joining Paris Saint-Germain this winter.

Marseille prevented the player from moving to Parc des Princes last summer, but the Saints could now finally get their man.

Namely, Diarra is eager to leave his current side Al Jazira and he may be allowed to leave on a free transfer despite having a contract until June 2020.

The fact that the Frenchman didn’t take part at the recent FIFA Club World Cup is enough to suggest he will soon part ways with his current employers.

Meanwhile, PSG are looking to sign another holding midfielder, but they are not in a position to spend a lot of money, which is why long-term target Lassana Diarra is now back in their crosshairs.

Bailly´s injury troubles continue with forced withdrawal against Spurs

Eric Bailly s Manchester United injury woes continued after the centre-back was taken off on a stretcher during Thursday s International Champions Cup clash against Tottenham.

Ivory Coast international Bailly joined United in 2016 from Villarreal and showed promise in his first season, but he has amassed only 25 top-flight appearances in the two campaigns since.

The 25-year-old has been dogged by a host of injuries during his time at United, with persistent shoulder, knee and groin problems limiting his impact.

After managing just eight Premier League starts last term, Bailly is no doubt hoping to play a bigger role in 2019-20, but 10 minutes after his half-time introduction against Spurs on Thursday he was carried off.

Jamie Carragher accuses Nottingham Forest of lacking ‘class’ over PGMOL outburst

Television pundit Jamie Carragher has accused Nottingham Forest of lacking “class” after launching a social media broadside following a controversial Premier League defeat at Everton.

Relegation-threatened Forest were aggrieved not to be awarded three penalties – all against former England defender Ashley Young – as they lost 2-0 at Goodison Park, and later took aim at referees’ body Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL).

The club described the decisions as “extremely poor” and implied that VAR official Stuart Attwell was a Luton fan – the Hatters are also engaged in a survival fight in a post on its official X, formerly Twitter, account.

That s like a fan in a pub says Nottingham Forest s response is an embarrassment
